Light South Carolina - helping all of the Upstate of South Carolina with free CFL light bulbs
Global climate change is the most significant environmental challenge of the day, and South Carolina is one of the most at risk states with drought in the upstate and the threat of hurricanes in the low country. Wasteful energy consumption is perhaps the largest contributor to global climate change. One of the easiest effective steps to reduce energy consumption is to change the lighting in your home from old-style incandescent bulbs to modern compact fluorescent lighting. If every household in the United States replaced one light
bulb with a compact fluorescent light (CFL),
it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing 800,000 cars from the
road. In addition to the environmental benefits, a CFL uses 75% less energy than
an incandescent bulb and lasts 10 times longer, thereby saving money on a home’s energy bills. Each
CFL will save the user more than $45 over the life
of the bulb.
Green Light South Carolina is working to reverse global climate change by helping South Carolina's low- and middle-income families and
individuals make the switch from incandescent bulbs to energy efficient
compact fluorescent lights , one house at a time. Our strategy is
to actually go to the homes of South Carolina residents starting in the upstate and install the
CFLs ourselves, so the savings are immediately felt. The installation
is done by volunteers from the community and
the program is free. Green Light South Carolina is an official branch of Green light New Orleans. Green Light New Orleans has made a tremendous impact on New Orleans and we want to take the same mission with Green Light South Carolina to help thousands of families in South Carolina to lower their energy bills AND gives them an
opportunity to actively contribute to global climate change solutions. |
