Green Light South Carolina is a subsidiary of Green Light New Orleans, a 501C3 Non-Profit environmental organization. Both GLSC and GLNO are working to address the issues of global climate change and rising energy cost.
Musician Andreas
Hoffmann founded the organization in 2006 in New Orleans as a response
to the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina. "I had to do
something to help New Orleans get back on its feet again",
he said, "And I knew it had to be beneficial to the city of
New Orleans as well as to our planet". "We calculated the
pollution we created by touring to Europe and figured out how many
CFLs had to be installed to offset the pollution." With each
concert ticket sold at shows in europe people were asked to donate
to Green Light New Orleans. The audience immediately suppported
the idea and the fundraiser was a big success .
Green Light South Carolina came about after Dr. Terry Walker and Cassie Troyer volunteered for GLNO in early 2008. Terry and Cassie left with a strong desire to bring the same experience and mission to the South Carolina Upstate. "Terry and I started using CFL's years ago through out our homes. We then got into the habit of carrying some in the car and giving them to folks we met along the way. After volunteering for GLNO we knew we had found kindred spirits that had organized this simple idea into a viable solution to to reach thousands of people."
